Get more exercise

Incorporate more exercise in your day by walking the last flight of stairs to your office or getting off one stop on the train or bus before home and walking the rest of the way. It is amazing how easy it is to add a little bit of exercise to each day.

Keep hydrated

Drink plenty of fluids especially during and after exercising. It doesn’t have to be water it can be iced tea, water with a squeeze of lemon, green tea or your favourite freshly squeezed juice.

Eliminate sugar and salt

Try to eliminate as much salt and sugar as you can. Instead of salt try adding herbs and spices to food and use artificial or natural alternative sweeteners.

Add to your diet, don’t take away

Add more fruit and vegetables to your diet and add more lean protein. Don’t eat less just to lose a few pounds, eat better. When you eat in front of the TV you eat more than you realize and you don’t actually enjoy your food as much. Take your time to savour the taste of the great healthy food you are eating.

Stock healthy snacks

Fill the fridge and larder with healthy snacks like tinned fruit in natural juice, tuna in brine or spring water and lots of carrots and celery sticks already cut up to eat.

Play with the kids

Take time to play outdoors with the kids. They will love it and so will you. Kick a soccer ball in the park; go for a walk in a national park or reserve; walk along the beach or explore your town. What you teach the kids about exercise will stay with them so they will lead a healthy life with their family.

Have a positive attitude

Always be positive about changing your habits. You will not feel better immediately, you may even feel worse but soon you will be seeing the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
