No, me neither, but when I learned that drinking one soda a day can age you by as many as 4.6 additional years I thought I had better take some time to learn a little more about them. FACT: It is not just pop and beer that comes in cans, in some countries you get fruit juices and milk! I was shocked at the strange things that you can buy in cans, it really is an odd world we live in.

FACT: Australians are the world’s biggest can drinkers, not America! The Aussies consumed over 3 billion aluminium cans in 2011, but only 51% were soft drink cans the rest were obviously beer cans.

FACT: Aluminium is the most abundant metal found in the earth’s crust but is difficult to isolate because usually it is mashed inside many with other elements.

FACT: The carbon savings made by recycling cans in the UK was equivalent to taking over 200,000 cars of the road! That is a massive saving.

FACT: The energy saved by recycling 4 aluminium drink cans would run a washing machine for 1 hour, or a TV for 45 mins!

FACT: Every time you recycle a can it will save more carbon every time they pass through the recycling loop! Making a true zero-footprint item.

FACT: During a whole year one drinks can have been recycled up to eight times! But strangely it is said that every time it is pressed again and recycled the percentage of the can recycled deteriorates by about 0.4%! Makes you wonder where it goes!

FACT: 100% of all drinks cans you recycle will be remade into a new product. This compares to only 74% of all paper recycled, the rest goes to landfill.
