Ten Top Tips for Improving Self-Confidence

There are a number of different reasons why you might want to improve your own self-confidence. Maybe you are going for a new job, maybe you are going on a date and need a little reminder about confidence tips, or maybe you just want to feel more confident in yourself. Whatever the reason you have visited this post these ten top tips should have you covered…

1. Identify your negative beliefs

You can sometimes be your own worst enemy! Don’t wallow in negative thoughts as they will limit you. Try and put them to the back of your mind and don’t let them determine the way that you live your life.

2. Ignore your inner critic

We all have an inner critic – the voice that says “You’re not good enough and people will find out.” Whenever you hear that inner critic, try and put a stop to the destructive thoughts. Try saying “Stop!” in your mind and move on to more productive activities.

3. Don’t compare yourself with others

When you compare yourself and your life with others, you can never win. There will always be someone who is prettier, richer, more intelligent or more successful than you in this world. Look inwards and compare yourself to yourself.

4. Set realistic goals

Nothing kills self-confidence like not being able to reach your goals. If you set more realistic goals, then you are more likely to be able to reach them and therefore feel successful.

5. Handle mistakes in a more positive way

It’s worth remembering that no one is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. But getting stuck in a mistake doesn’t do anyone any good. View them as a learning opportunity and use them as a lesson to build on.

6. Recognize your successes

Think back through your life so far and recognize all of your successes, no matter how small. It might help if you make a list of everything that you feel proud of.

7. Be kind and help others

If you are kinder to others then usually it means that you are kind to yourself too. And how you treat others is often how they will treat you. Be polite and courteous. Give compliments or hold the door open – just little things that can make all the difference.

8. Stick to your principles

If you do what you believe deep down is the right thing then you will strengthen your self-confidence. Try and stay consistent in your reasons for making decisions but don’t let that mean that you are inflexible.

9. Get relaxed

If you are feeling negative or stressed, you need to stop and re-assess. Take some time out for some relaxation or some exercise. Work on your meditation skills or take up yoga or Tai Chi. It will help you to take control of your life in a more assertive way.

10. Accept yourself

If there are things that you cannot change and have no control over, like your height or your skin colour, then you will need to learn to live with them. Try to love them as a part of you and you will feel more confident.
