Have you ever seen your cat hunt something? Maybe a toy or a bird or even something bigger like a squirrel. If you have, you will recognise the low-body stance, that deadly fixed stare and the waggling tail as it builds up the energy to leap onto its unsuspecting prey. You will imagine all those things happening in these ten pictures. I’m not really sure what some of these cats are hunting, but whatever it is they are very good at it and it makes for a pretty amazing photo…

It’s the classic image of cats hunting birds. Forever locked in the food chain battle there is not many a cat that at least tries to catch their feathered prey. If cats could fly there would be some amazing aerial battles that is for sure.

“Must stay low like my mummy taught me, must…stay..low.”

Cats hunting success rate is all down to their training. Often the mother cat is the one that will do all the hunt training rather than the male cat, but deep down it comes from millions of years of evolution from big cat hunting to little cat stalking.

“I have been staring so long my eyes have broken!”

Not living in a Country that has bigger rodents I have not seen cats hunting gophers or other larger prey, only smaller rodents like mice and birds. I have never seen any cats hunting hedgehogs either, but then again you only jump onto one of those once in a lifetime I suppose.

Don’t hunt from inside the box, become part of the box!

It’s the classic cats hunting mice image. Small, quick and enough to make most people jump on the chair. This is the classic Tom and Jerry issue that has been going on for years and used in many a book and tale before that.

Using simple or high-tech toys will grow and develop your cat’s hunting instincts. So playtime that is not only fun for you and the cat but also means your cat will hone its skills as a hunter and provider for the animal pack, IE you (the owner). Which does mean the better they are, the more “gifts” they will bring to you.

The accent art of over-optimism

I have never seen 2 cats hunt together. I always thought they were more solitary hunters, or maybe these 2 very young kittens hunting just don’t know any different. Whatever the reason I think they have bitten off more than they could chew with this bird that is for sure.

 …Soon.

It is not often you get such a stunning image of cats hunting squirrels, but this really is one of the good ones. I am not so sure it was intentional as maybe the cat simply photobombs the image of the squirrel! Or maybe it is a Photoshop masterpiece, or maybe this cat is about to attack this poor animal.
